If you’re a fan of fake tan you probably won’t be scouting for a pair of white tights this Autumn. You’ll more than likely be busy lashing on Rimmel Sun Shimmer, leaving orange stains on your clothes and smelling faintly of stale bread. Forget you! White tights are a massive trend for Autumn and Winter and are a brave alternative to the classic black.
However, they can be difficult to get right. Firstly they are very unforgiving. If black tights can be described as slimming, white tights are the exact opposite. Secondly they can easily be styled incorrectly and end up looking childish.
To wear white tights you don’t have to take a style cue from Alice in Wonderland, as was seen at Anna Sui. Look to the BCBG Max Azria show and pair them with block colours and black to create a much more practical and wearable look. You could also opt for a colourful 60’s style dress (see Miu Miu’s winter catwalk for 60’s styles that will make you salivate) or team your white tights with fur for a 70’s look.
If your legs aren’t your favorite asset, then don’t wear white tights. You could try white knee-high or ankle socks paired with heels as an alternative. Opaque is generally more flattering than sheer, as it can better disguise cellulite and won’t show up patches of uneven skin tone.
