Q. I have a date next weekend. The date, is not conventional, we are going on a hill walk. What on earth does a girl wear on a hill walk that will not make her look unattractive or make her sweat and look disastrous? Michelle, 29, Westmeath.

A. Michelle you are a braver woman than most and I applaud you for trying something different. If hill walking is an activity you are going to pursue you should definitely consider investing in proper hiking gear. Places like The Great Outdoors and the North Face are specialists. Assuming your date is going to be more of a jolly stroll in the mountains as opposed to a rigorous all day hike, my advice is to keep it casual with plenty of layers.

A light weight mac or parka is ideal for layering and will also act as a wind breaker. The Ditzy mac (€22) from Dunnes looks great styled with denim cut offs and leggings. If you’d rather not wear trainers then a pair of lace up boots will do the trick. For additional height, you would probably get away with a wedge heel like this brown pair from TK Maxx (€59.99).
