After what can only be described as the longest four day week of our lives, it is finally, FINALLY, the weekend! Whoo-ho…okay slight exaggeration. Though it is the weekend, it also happens to be the first weekend January, a milestone that few wish to mark or celebrate.
And we can’t really blame them. With half of your friends on the totally exhausted “Dry January” buzz, and the remainder indulging in that eye-rollingly stupid “New Year, New Me” malarkey, the prospects a wild one on the first weekend in January are slim to say the least.
And that’s before even mentioning the funds. Or lack thereof.

So yes, this weekend probably won’t be a rager, but that does not mean you can’t enjoy it! Start the year off right with some low-key fun this weekend.

1. Throw a Nollaig na mBan Party

The most en Vogue thing to do this Friday and a great excuse to catch up with your favourite ladies, Women’s Christmas’ events are growing ever popular through out the country. So, round up the girls. Grab a bottle of wine (or diet coke for the dry wans). Put on a spread of nibbles (i.e. use up any excess Christmas food). And hey presto, your Friday is sorted.

2. First Fortnight

We’ve said ourselves how grim this first weekend can be, First Fortnight is an arts’ festival targeted at removing stigma attached to mental health issues and starting a conversation about mental health awareness.

3. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

Yes it may seem grueling, yes it may seem silly, but there might actually be something in making one or two changes this year. And what better way than in the company of friends.
