If the prospect of snow boots and flood gear is all becoming too grim a reality then for the next couple of minutes cast your mind forward to warmer, sunny, spring times. The fashion world is already in full swing for Spring Summer 2012. Yesterday I popped along to the Topshop SS 2012 press preview in Fitzrovia, central London for a sneak peek at what’s coming in store next year. To say it was a tonic, is an understatement!
As always Topshop are all over any and every trend that’s going to be big next year and there’s something for every taste. The first thing that caught my eye was a coral sheer sundress and a mint green pastel skirt. Innocent candy coloured pastels were all over the place, adding a touch of sweet innocence to otherwise very-grown up silhouettes. While there were many mini skirts, hemlines in general continue to be lower with pleated skirts and sheer fabrics hitting on or just below the knee as the 50′s inspired silhouette carries through. For those who prefer something stronger, pops of neon and bold statement colour clashes of pink and orange (check out the shoes below) were also on show.
White was another big story with a selection of city tailored whites and off-white with sportswear tailoring such as exposed zips on deconstructed blazers and tux jackets. The sports lux influence didn’t end there and were to be seen on Chanel-esque tweed jackets too. One of my favourites was a Chanel inspired jacket with biker detailing – an asymmetrical zipper and wide black leather labels contrasting the classic tweed, ace! The piece everyone seemed to be swooning over however was a mohair and suede jacket.
Turquoise and yellow were all over the place as were foil coated metallic fabrics on jackets, trousers, skirts and dresses. The big surprise was an exclusive look at the Topshop collaboration with queen of digital print, Mary Katrantzou. Landing in stores in February, it’s a capsule collection of 14 pieces to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Topshop sponsoring new generation designers. With her exquisite signature print, bold colours and a price point around the €350 mark for dresses (which let’s be honest don’t differ that much from her mainline collection which is priced at €1000 upwards) these pieces are sure to fly off the shelves when they hit stores. It’ll be only available in 15 Topshops across the UK but I’m reliably informed Dublin with be the exception!
