The sunshine and higher temperatures have men across the country popping on a pair of shorts. And rightly so if you ask me. However it appears not everyone would agree. The fashion powerhouse that is Tom Ford recently spoke out against the wearing of shorts, in what sounded very like a dictate, he said “A man should never wear shorts in the city…shorts should only be worn on the tennis court or on the beach“. He goes on to say that shorts in the summer, even if the temperature becomes unbearable should never be worn and they are simply “never appropriate“.

I’ve only one word – rubbish! Tommy boy is speaking a whole load of claptrap and I completely disagree. Saying a man should never wear shorts is the equivalent of saying a woman should never wear a bikini. Fashion is about having fun and if you can’t have fun with it, what’s the point?

Let’s face it, it’s not as if us men have that many options and shorts are a vital component of any man’s summer wardrobe. So I say embrace shorts and this season the bolder and brighter the better. Think pillar-box reds, canary yellows, varsity greens and purples that really pop!

For the record, I’m a massive Tom Ford fan. I adore his clothes; his style sensibility; I wear him daily, his Lime Azure fragrance is my go-to! Rant over. Now go get yourself some coloured shorts!
