HARVEY NICHOLS FASHION SHOW SS10

February 8th, 2010

Harvey Nichols

Harvey Nichols Dundrum presented their spring summer offerings with a fabulous concept fashion show styled and produced by Paula Hughes on Thursday last.

The scene was set when invited guests were ushered, champagne in hand, to a warehouse-style venue hidden in the basement of the store. Ultra-violet lighting, a paint splattered run-way and Auguste-faced clowns (aptly named Hilarious Hank!) provided the setting for a multicoloured circus concept show. Designs by Sonia Rykiel, D&G, Vivienne Westwood, See by Chloe, and Alexander Mc Queen strutted down the catwalk. My favourites came in the form of Amanda Wakeley, Philip Lim and the queen of digital prints Mary Katrantzou.

Kudos to the team at Harvey Nic’s who didn’t ignore the men in the audience and presented some pretty slick menswear looks from Diesel, Dsquared2, D&G and the super cool ‘Elvis Jesus emerald Miami Vice’ t-shirt exclusive to Harvey Nichols.

KNOW YOUR BRA SIZE?

January 20th, 2010

M&S Bras

Putting aside the latest trend of wearing underwear as outerwear (yes, corsets, bra-tops, thigh-highs and the like, worn as outerwear have appeared all over the catwalks of Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier & Dior etc) the importance of wearing the correct size bra should never be under-estimated. CLAIM THE FRAME

November 9th, 2009

Claim the Frame online glasses emporium

Anyone who’s been there will know what I mean when I say I can’t think of anything worse than the feeling you experience when you drop, and subsequently step on, your favourite pair of glasses.

That’s exactly what I did a couple of months back when I broke my beloved frames clean in two. I even attempted a DIY glue job (I’d had them over 5 years) but it wasn’t to be.

STYLE WITH JLS

August 21st, 2009

Yesterday while I was in studio reporting with Gerry Ryan we had the pleasure of being joined by JLS of the X Factor.

The guys had literally just touched down in Dublin airport (tickets for their O2 concert went on sale yesterday) and their first port of call was the G Ryan Show.

Style-wise the guys were looking well so afterwards I had a quick chat with them about their style.

I noticed JB was wearing some really nice disc studded black & gold Marc by Marc Jacobs earrings. Generally I’m not a fan of earrings on guys but they suited his style and looked really well. According to him they’re his favourite pair! He was suitably impressed I was wearing yellow, seemingly it’s his favourite colour!

Marvin meanwhile was looking super stylish wearing a really cool pair of black textured leather D&G boots with a side buckle closure and belt detailing. They really set off his outfit. He revealed he actually has two pairs of them – another pair in brown – at over €545, it’s well for some!

Before meeting JLS, I had very little interest in what they do but I have to say they are a really genuine, nice bunch of lads and talented singers who sang live in studio. I wish them the best of luck and if the success of their first single ‘Beat Again’ is anything to go by, they won’t be needing it! Here it is for your viewing pleasure, their number one hit single.

TRENDS IN MENS FASHION AW09

July 26th, 2009

Slim fitting tailoring, thin lapels (and in some cases no lapels) and elongated jackets are just some of the looks featuring prominently on the catwalks of Paris and Milan for AW09. Alexis Mabille, Kilgour and Versace, to name just a few, following this trend.

Slightly nipped in waist and the wider shoulder added a touch of drama and a dose of masculinity to the shape. And the three piece again emerged strongly. The military shape is once again a driving force on the catwalks with many designers drawing inspiration for tailored coats from World War 2 naval officer style overcoats. D&G used a Musketeer style patterned detailing and no doubt the high street will be quick to follow in their footsteps with this design.
