UNDERWEAR AS OUTERWEAR

Who ever thought the trend for wearing underwear on the outside would be one of this season’s hottest trends? The last time we saw a shift towards lingerie as outerwear was in the 80’s and not much has changed since then in that this look can be very unforgiving. The key to creating a sexy, sultry and sassy look is to keep it subtle in terms of styling and colour (avoid red it’s too overtly sexy).

STEPPING OUT IN STYLE

Carrie Bradshaw’s infatuation with statement shoes took hold in early 2000 so much so that the influence of SATC hangs over the whole last decade. As we enter the ‘Tweenies’ (or Twenty-tens) it’s perhaps more important than ever to, quite literally, put your best foot forward…

A BAG FOR LIFE (IN EVERY SENSE)

I caught up with my friend Edel during the week who I hadn’t seen for over a month. She was super excited telling me about her recent treat to herself – a Chanel 2.55 handbag.

It’s a classic and oh so stunning. She’s wanted one for as long as I remember and I was delighted for her. It got me thinking about handbags and the real difference they can make to an outfit.

If you fancy treating yourself to a nice bag, something a little different, but haven’t quite got the budget for a Chanel then a Santi handbag might be the perfect choice.

Santi handbags are handmade in India by craftsmen who have mastered their skills over centuries using materials such as fine silk, sequins, crystals, shells, beads, embroidery, leather and stones in all different shades and intricate designs with clear inspiration from contemporary fashions to vintage looks.

RELIGION'S GRUNGE SIDE GETS A RUFFLE OF GLAMOUR

Fans of London fashion label, Religion, can prepare to unleash their inner femme fatale, as it flies into Autumn Winter 09 with a wonderfully macabre collection full of bodycon and draped dresses, leopard print ripped skinny jeans and bustling jackets.

This season Religion fuses intricate Victorian references alongside its signature rocker style. Gauze chiffons, sheer satins, oversized rayon knits and flowing silks in a colour palette of midnight greys, icy blues and deep blood reds set the theme.

As ever, Religion applies a sharp eye to detailing. I think the leather jackets are awesome and the most interesting I’ve seen this season. In particular those adorned with sharp brass pyramid studs across the lapels, giving hard-hitting edge to quite feminine pieces (see below).

This season sees Religion introduce a 30 piece woven collection, ranging from poly-wool coats and woollen dresses, to tailored waistcoats and blazers.
