Newly crowned Miss Ireland, Emma Waldron (21) from Celbridge Co. Kildare, is hoping to make her name on the International stage representing Ireland in the Miss World Final on October 30. Currently studying to be a primary school teacher, Emma was crowned the overall winner at the event in Dublin last month. At the moment Emma is in China in preparation for the Miss World final and she managed to have a quick chat with us here at HelpMyStyle.ie to talk what she know’s best – all things beauty & fashion!
Describe your style in five words?
Girly, glittery, flowing, flirty and colourful
What’s your beauty essential?
Big Heated Rollers by Babyliss! I never used to use them until recently when my friend and hair stylist Michael Doyle introduced them to me! I can’t live without them now! Nothing like a bit of bounce and volume! Especially for those like me who have quite straight and lifeless hair ;( Oooo I also find that the REDKEN Volume Mousse is absolutely excellent.
What item could you not live without?
I LOVE my MAC Pro Lash Mascara
I would not be able to use any other brand! Once you start using MAC you just never go back!
If your house was on fire and you’d only time to save one thing, what would it be?
My passport! My Dad always says a man without a passport is a man without a country! But realistically, it would probably be my little brother in one hand (because he is the heaviest sleeper known to man!) and my phone/laptop in the other! (does a slash counteract the fact that laptop and phone count as two items???!)
Most desired fashion item at the moment?
A nice warm winter coat. I loved the faux fur look last winter so a jacket that combines this and leather will make me very very happy!
Best style tip?
Get a good nights sleep! I heard that the sleep you have before twelve is the most valuable! Also, look after your skin because especially younger people (13+) might’nt realize that their skin needs to be really well looked after from a young age. If you use a light moisturizer when you’re young. Drink green tea and drink lots of water because it stops you getting bags under your eyes (I’m sure you’ve heard this all before!) Massage your face with cleanser to stimulate circulation to your face as well as oxygen and to get rid of any old skin cells and also to move the fluid (I think it’s lymph) which will reduce puffiness. Finally!! Remove your makeup every night!! Even if you’re partying ‘til the wee hours!! You’re skin will love you even though all you want to do is climb into your bed! Oh and keep the use of makeup wipes to a minimum Kate O Reilly my friend who’s a makeup artist kills me for using them! They’re apparently really bad for you!! So use something like Make Up Forever PURE WATER Moisturizing Cleansing Water, it’s really good and leaves your skin feeling really soft!
What’s in your handbag right now?
Oh Lordy, this might take a while! I’m in China for the Miss World competition right now so in Dublin Airport I cleared out my purse contents into the zip pocket of my bag! So it comprises of receipts that I’ll never look at but keep anyway for some bizarre reason! Lots of 1,2 cent coins which I collect just for fun! (Not really but counting them in the shop is embarrassing because they’re so alike and I get flustered and queues begin to form so I tend to just leave them in my purse and empty them into a poor box when it starts getting too heavy!) I have my purse, my MAC Crème D’Nude Lipstick, MAC Subculture lip liner, MAC Peachykeen blusher, MAC Face and Body foundation, MAC Matte Bronze bronzing powder, MAC Invisible Powder and MAC Pro Lash Mascara. The only reason I’ve SOOO much makeup is that when we’re here we have paparazzi taking our photos and filming us ALL the time so I have to make sure I’m looking the best that I can as much as possible ;*) I have a tooth brush and Colgate Sensitive tooth paste. Also somewhere in the midst of all that is my Clarins hand crème, a bottle of water and sheets with the order of the final show routine on it so I can read it when I have a minute!
Who is your style-crush?
I don’t really have one particular person that I follow because I think my style changes with my mood and the season. I very much like Rihanna when she wears smart casual clothes with a hint of colour, like at Paris Fashion week when she wore a print dress with a pattern that is quite African in style. I love Amanda Seyfried’s style too! She’s so natural and beautiful which is also reflected in her style.
Worst and/or best shopping experience?
Best shopping experience- when we were in Beijing as part of the Miss World competition we got to visit a shopping mall with thousands of gorgeous shops. All around us there were people asking for our picture and our autograph. It was a surreal but wonderful experience! Oh and we got a discount because we were contestants! Which made spending money a lot more easy, not that it’s a chore!!!
Worst shopping experience- going shopping when you’ve no money! It’d always then that you see all the things you need!! ?
Best high street store or boutique?
I love SOHO Boutique Newbridge (www.sohoboutique.ie), COCO Boutique (www.cocoboutique.ie) and Julien Boutique in Stephen’s Green. On the highstreet I absolutely adore AWEAR. Their clothes are amazing and always fit me so well! Dunnes stores Savida range is absolutely beautiful I took a lot of their clothes with me to China!
Favourite place to shop?
My favourite place to shop is Abercrombie and Fitch because I used to work there! I fell in LOVE with all the clothes and I love the music they play and looking at all the people who work there to check out their style and copy it!!
What is your travel essential?
Make Up Forever Moisturizing Lotion and my warmest hoodie
Fashion on the web?
www.crystalandco.com- they have the BEST jewelry in the world! It is SO sparkly. All the girls here at Miss World call me ‘Miss Blingy Blingy’ and they all ask me where I got my jewelry. In my opinion, their stuff is an absolute MUST HAVE for a night out! Especially a Debs, a wedding or a Christmas Party!
www.instyle.com- because it has its own make over section where you can try different hairstyles, makeup, eye colours, etc. on yourself!
www.fashiongonerouge.com- because I can see all the fashion show and editorial trends and also it provides me with inspiration for my photoshoots.
www.helpmystyle.ie- I genuinely love this site and when I was asked to answer these questions for the site I got so excited! I love the photo albums from the different events and the womens section which gives advice on bags, makeup, clothes and shoes as well as keeping me posted on Designer Collections! I really love it!
Worst fashion moment?
My glass is half full
I’m sure I’ve had PLENTY!
What era of style would you most like see return to fashion?
You know what I really love the style that’s around at the moment. I think it’s so feminine and beautiful. There is an edgy independent strong women feel to it too, which I also adore. I do like high waited trousers and flowing tops so maybe a return of the 70’s style wouldn’t be such a bad thing. I know my Dad would love to resurrect some of his shirt and possibly his long hair!
Finally, what do you want your style to say about you?
I love wearing bright colours and I would like this to reflect my sunny disposition. I believe very much in colour psychology so if I’m feeling a wee bit down or if something is on my mind I tend to wear brightly coloured clothes (yellows, greens and blues) as I feel it instantly cheers you up. I think during the day the fabric of my clothes is often flowing and the design is usual soft which I hope makes me approachable and possibly kind. But I also have an edgy side which I like to show off at night with fitted dresses and dark smokey eyes which probably shows a bit I have a bit more zumphf
