Currently co-presenter on the ever popular RTÉ show Nationwide, Mary Kennedy began her broadcasting career in 1978 when she applied for a job as continuity announcer. She went on to become a newscaster, presented the Eurovision Song Contest in 1995 and she also hosted her own Saturday night chat show as well as being co-presenter with Marty Whelan on Open House. We’ve always admired Mary for her simply but very definite style. She always looks super elegant and most importantly confident in what she wears. We reckon we could all learn something from this doyenne of daytime TV…

Describe your style in five words?
Unfussy, comfortable, simple, not waisted

What’s your beauty essential?
Sleep. I don’t always get enough of it cos I’m not a great sleeper but I do crave it and feel great outwardly and inwardly when I go through a phase of good sleeping.

What item could you not live without?
I could live without perfume but would rather not have to.

If your house was on fire and you’d only time to save one thing, what would it be?
My digital photo frame, full of fabulous memories.

Most desired fashion item – what’s top of your wish list at the moment?
A stylish set of garden furniture. I missed a bargain recently through procrastination. I won’t let it happen again

Best style tip?
Keep it simple

Favourite designers?
I like Quin and Donnelly for what they’ve achieved as two women working creatively while facing the challenges of domestic and mothering duties and also for their look and wear-ability.

What’s in your handbag right now?
Everything but the kitchen sink, including lip gloss, lip balm and a hairbrush!

Worst and/or best shopping experience?
I’m not a good clothes shopper. I much prefer buying for the house and garden. I like Woodies, Avoca, every garden center…..the list goes on.

What is your travel essential?
Whether it be air travel or car journey in Ireland for Nationwide, a 2 litre bottle of water is my essential.

Fashion on the web?
I don’t do fashion on the web.

What era of style would you most like see return to fashion?
I love the Audrey Hepburn’s look. Simple straight and elegant.

Finally, what do you want your style to say about you?
That I dress to suit the occasion. I consider that respectful to the people who are part of the occasion. And that I don’t feel the need to be stylish all the time
