Originally from Finglas in North Dublin, Peter O’Brien has carved out an impression career on the International stage becoming one of Paris’s most respected Couturiers. He has worked at The House of Christian Dior, Rochas, Givenchy and Chloe. Earlier this year he made his first forays into TV as one of the judges on TV3′s Style Wars. We caught up with this talented and witty gentleman to delve a little deeper into his personal style…

Describe your style in 5 words?
invisible, uniform-like and hopefully unfashionable.

What is my beauty essential?
Studious avoidance of mirrors.

What item could I not live without?
Carmex.

If your house was on fire what one item would you save?
Truly don’t care about clothes, would grab as many of my books as possible.

What’s your most desired fashion item?
A pair of 18th century rose cut diamond cuff links from SJ Phillips on Bond Street.

Top style tip?
Bin your foundation and wear sleeves. (That goes for guys also)

Do you carry a man-bag and if so what’s in it now?
I gave up carrying one as I think at a certain age men and bags are unhappy bedfellows.

Who’s your ultimate style crush?
Tilda Swinton, Elisabeth Quin (the chic-est and smartest woman in France), my pal Herve Pierre (creative director of Carolina Herrera), he always manages to look fantastic without seeming to make any effort.

Worst/Best shopping experience?
Best was recently in SJ Phillips in London where the staff were so gracious and welcoming and spent a good 45 minutes showing us extraordinary 18th and 19th century jewels.
Worst, well I loathe shopping for clothes so any occasion when I am obliged to do so is complete hell.

Best High Street store?
The only one I have a nodding acquaintance with would be Zara where I have bought the odd jacket. And Awear who were hugely supportive of what I wanted to do with my line for their shops. I also really like Cos and am excited about their arrival in Ireland!
