Author Marisa Mackle started her writing career when she joined Aer Lingus after finishing college. She worked as an air hostess for 6 years and many of her books began life sitting at the back of the plane in Milan or Paris or wherever they happened to stop for lunch. With 10 books now under her belt, including Mr Right for the Night, which was a number one Irish bestseller and published in 10 different languages, Marisa now adds mother to her list of achievements. We sat down with the ever glam Marisa for a chat about all things style…
Describe your style in five words?
Fun, flirty, feminine, glamorous, adventurous.
What’s your beauty essential?
ROC Multi Correxion make-up remover.
What item could you not live without?
My black patent Chanel bag.
If your house was on fire and you’d only time to save one thing, what would it be?
My baby, Gary.
Most desired fashion item – what’s top of your wish list at the moment?
Another Chanel bag – maybe a pink one.
Best style tip?
Wear what looks good on you, not on the hanger, always have an iron at the ready, and invest in a good quality black winter coat.
What’s in your handbag right now?
Essence nail varnish, Yonka lip balm, baby wipes, dry shampoo and credit card.
Who is your style-crush?
Victoria Beckham. She has really come into her own in recent years stylewise. I really admire her elegance, her drive and her good taste.
Worst/best shopping experience?
The worst was when I was in college I bought a salmon-coloured suede jacket that didn’t go with anything. I never wore it. The best was when I discovered the village in New York for the first time and went on a crazy shopping spree.
Best high street store or boutique?
Chica in the Westbury Mall for their showstopping party dresses. Karen Millan for coats.
Favourite place to shop?
Paris, followed by either London or New York.
What is your travel essential?
An eye-mask so I can sleep, and a comb and lipstick so I can look relatively normal when I wake up.
Fashion on the web?
www.ebay.ie because I can buy everything under sun on that site.
www.purseblog.com because I have an unnaturally unhealthy obsession with designer bags.
Worst fashion moment?
When I appeared in the Sunday Independent’s ‘Sack the Stylist’ a fortnight before I gave birth to my son.
What era of style would you most like see return to fashion?
The 50s. Women looked elegant and feminine and the dresses were so pretty.
Finally, what do you want your style to say about you?
I hope it says that I’m not a slave to fashion. I dress depending on my current mood and I know which labels tend to suit me. I wouldn’t want to look like everybody else in the room!
