If you’ve had a chance to stroll around Temple Bar recently, you might have noticed Shotsy Vintage which has just opened in Temple Lane South (opposite FilmBase and the brand spanking new ‘Momma’s Place’ cafe & wine bar).
While I like vintage clothes, I’m not a big fan of vintage shopping i.e. often times stores are too disorganised for my liking and are more like jumble sales than genuine vintage. What’s more I find some vintage stores take themselves a bit too seriously and are stuffy and overpriced. At Shotsy I was thrilled to find the clothes are in great condition, the shop floor is clear and easy to navigate…and very importantly the prices are very affordable.
Shotsy stock quality clothes from the 50’s through to the 80’s and everything in their range is hand picked. Their stock currently includes everything from 70’s day dresses, 60’s shift dresses, 50’s evening dresses, turbans, handbags, aprons, footwear, knitwear, jewellery, scarves… and for the bachelors, they stock a range of men’s apparel, including work shirts, dress shirts, blazers and ties.
I was interested to find out the name ‘Shotsy’ is based on Lauren Bacall’s famous character, ‘Schatzi’ in the classic 50’s movie ‘How to Marry a Millionaire’. Lauren plays a financially challenged single girl, who sets herself up in a penthouse apartment to create the illusion of affluence and lure those bachelor millionaires. With co-stars like Marilyn Monroe and Betty Grable, who better to pay homage to when naming a store?

Whether you are a seasoned vintage shopper or a vintage virgin, Shotsy Vintage is a wardrobe of good stuff waiting to be raided. Make sure to pop down and tell them Darren sent you (it might not make any difference but sure try it out…you never know!).
