The lovely peeps at West Coast Cooler invited me back to do some more guest blogging. This month we had a look at shearling and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you won’t have not noticed it all over the highstreet. Here it is in case you missed it. Hope you enjoy!

SHEARLING IN ALL ITS GLORY

Okay so schools are back, college is soon to follow and despite the recent ‘Indian Summer’ (which lasted the guts of only four days but what a glorious few days they were!), it’s time to start transitioning your wardrobe if you haven’t already done so.

Being warm and stylish can be tricky but this season we can thank the fashion Gods for shearling. The sheepskin-like lining is super-warm, super-soft & super-stylish. It was the big news on all the catwalks earlier in the year with Burberry Prorsum championing the trend – their shows featured enough Aviator jackets to rival Pearl Harbour and the entire cast of Topgun combined!

Definitely this season’s hot-ticket-item, shearling gives just the right amount of panache to complete any going-out look. Fashionistas Kate Moss, Keira Knightley and Penélope Cruz all seem to be hooked. If it’s good enough for that lot, well it’s good enough for me! The easiest way to embrace this trend is with a slightly cropped shearling jacket. For a going-out look, I love the contrast of fabrics and textures it gives, bringing some edge to roughen up an otherwise feminine look. The result is instant insouciant chic. Any highstreet store worth their salt, have introduced shearling in some form or another. As always Penney’s and New Look offer an affordable fashion fix while Topshop have some really interesting style variations.

Keep in mind this furry little number can add bulk to your frame and border on frumpy if you’re not careful. So make sure to up the chic factor by pairing the outerwear with a fitted dress or dark denims and high-heeled boots. At all costs, don’t ever wear with uggs!

Other options are sleeveless gilets, leather bombers and full-length coats. But if you’re not one to embrace the full aviator trend then dabble in the look with some sheepskin-lined ankle boots. Wear with a maxi skirt or a tea dress with bare legs (weather permitting of course) for a night out on the town!
