The heritage look is one of those trends which dominates winter fashion year in and year out. It’s also one of those trends which makes me tilt my head and stare wistfully into the distance, where I imagine a much more fashionable me trotting around a frosty Paris, decked from head to toe in tweeds and faux-furs… and for some reason, fashionable me always looks Olivia Palermo – who happens to don the heritage look with aplomb.
Say what you like about Olivia Palermo, but that girl knows how to dress and more importantly she knows how to layer. Layering is integral to the heritage look – of course your equestrian prints, faux-fur collars and warm tweeds are also important but really, to pull this look off you need Olivia’s mad skills in layering.
The colours to embrace are all the shades of grey and brown but make these base colours pop with the warmer burgundy’s and mustards that are everywhere this Winter. Topshop have a stunning double breasted coat with velvet tie in mustard (€90) at the moment, team this with a plain ribbed tee in a neutral shade and on the bottom – let’s go midi. The mid-length skirt is VERY heritage – Asos have a perfect oversized-check skirt in midi length with a pleat detail (€64) and for a slightly 80’s twist, team this with a pair of tan knee-high boots, Zara have a gorgeous pair for €120.

To finish it all off, belt it all together with a tan skinny belt and pop a faux-fur collar on your
shoulders. Faux-fur really updates this look for now, so embrace it! Asos have a grey version for
€32.
