The sound of music filled the air around The Piano Bar in Residence on Thursday 26th August at the launch of the 2010 Waterford International Music Festival. RTE’s Maura Derrane, who’s getting set for her new afternoon show in September, was on hand to launch the Festival which is celebrating its 50th Anniversary this year. Although she’s an Inis Mor girl Maura knows Waterford well as she resides in Dungarvan with her politician hubby John Deasy! Maura will be hosting the gala night of the Festival on the 13th November in Waterford.

Classical singer Rebecca Storm performed on the evening where guests were treated to pink champagne and gourmet canapés. Other guests on the night were Waterford boy illusionist Keith Barry and his wife Mairead, Alex Hatton of 4FM and Anne Marie Caulfield, president of the 2010 Festival.

The Festival which takes place in the refurbished Theatre Royal in Waterford from the 2nd to 13th November will consist of competitive light opera evenings, a new Gospel Festival, a High School Musical theatre competition and a number of fringe theatre events including lunchtime recitals, a series of master classes, workshops and exhibitions.

Rebecca Storm will perform on the opening night of the Festival and productions such as The Wedding Singer, Sweeney Todd and Pirates of Penzance will also feature. A treat for lovers of light opera and music in general!
