Helmut Lang womenswear for Autumn Winter 2010 has just touched down at Brown Thomas. Perhaps best regarded for having defined luxe minimalism in the nineties (along with the likes of Jil Sander, Prada, and Calvin Klein), the label was relaunched in 2007 after changing hands without its legendary namesake at the helm. Helmut Lang still maintains the brand’s modern, minimalist roots but has become a more affordable label which is good news for shoppers!

This collection is all about modern structures with a hint of the classic. Using different textures – including wools, furs, blistered looking leather & silks crepes – and mixing them together they manage to create great dimension and volume. Detailing with darts and seams bring structure to the clothes while controlling the drape of the fabrics.

It’s quite an industrial style with a colour palette of predominantly black and grey. A splash of colour comes in one of my favourite pieces from the collection, the black and white dress pictured (€650). I also really like the outerwear with lots of draping to soften the industrial style. If you’re on the hunt for your new winter coat, I’d recommend definitely checking out this collection.
