Spring/summer generally comes with a myriad of beautiful trends and 2011 is no exception. From vibrant, bright block colours and floral prints to innocent white and soft nudes, there’s plenty of choice. Romanticism and bohemian styles are once again big and print lovers can rejoice as we’re seeing a wide palette of floral prints in every shape and size. Some are sweet and innocent with a vintage touch.
In case you hadn’t heard, everything seventies inspired is in big time and one of the biggest trends this year. Over the past couple of seasons we’ve seen many designers feature looks influenced by the decade and it has slowly been gaining popularity. For Spring 2011 it’s a fully-fledged trend with 70s-inspired pieces to be seen all over the place.
Personally from looking at old photos and movies, I’ve always found fashion from the 1970’s quite breathtaking and I’m thrilled to see it enjoy another lease of life. It’s quite easy to celebrate the spirit of the decade with wide leg jeans, long drapey dresses & blouses, over sized sunglasses and floppy hats, all of which have been given a modern makeover in terms of fabric and a designer-inspired detail.
One of the easiest ways to nail this look is by pairing some wide leg trousers or jeans with a lightweight blouse – go floral if you really want to get stuck in! Add some platform sandals (avoid flats at all costs) for a fashionable look that’s super comfortable and will make you’re legs look like they go on forever. Finally, throw on some ’70s inspired jewelry, for instance some bright earrings or chunky bangles. This is a look that screams glamour at its best and strikes that often hard to nail casual meets sophisticated look.
For the more adventurous, replace the wide leg jeans with some high-waisted shorts. To keep that 70’s vibe team with a floaty blouse but make sure to tuck it in to your shorts. Add some chunky sandals and accessories and finish it off with an over sized floppy hat for a look that’s perfect for the warmer weather that’s just around the corner (fingers crossed!).
