Outerwear was back in focus at the designer collections for AW11 with many going back to basics and showcasing classically tailored coats, capes and jackets. Practical and understated, yet chic and versatile, the message this season is to make an investment not a statement with your cover up of choice.

Capes and cape coats are going to be huge as we see everything from fitted capes that are quick and sweet to oversized, floor-sweeping and flowing. Whether tiered, cinched and hooded, texture plays a massive part with capes in a variety of weights and fabrics from silk and wool to velvet and fur and detailing that includes oversized collars and bold colors, flirty frills, ruffles and fur accents. Marc Jacobs went one step further with fabulous fringed ponchos.

The Elaine Curtis A/W fashion show 2011 takes place on September 14th in Dinn Ri, Carlow with Sonya Lennon acting as MC for the night. Elaine is celebrating the diamond anniversary of her boutiques opening – 10 years in business! It’s for a great cause – all proceeds go to the County Carlow Hospice.
