Coast AW10 Collection Preview

Yesterday I was invited to preview the Coast Autumn Winter 2010 collection. The ever lovely Ian Galvin (who’s currently gracing our screens onTV3 with Caprice in Style Wars) was on hand to talk through the collection. One word for it – STUNNING. I was genuinely impressed with what I saw.

This latest collection represents somewhat of a change in direction for Coast, who is synonymous with beautiful and affordable cocktail dresses. While they haven’t forgotten their roots, the new line offers grown up sophistication and a renewed confidence. The collection’s palette is a sumptuous blend of luxe neutrals accented with crimson, kingfisher, deep purple and inky blues. The mix of textures is fab.

Some of the stand out pieces for me include the Alia camel coat (€230) which will be a staple of many a fashionable lady’s wardrobe this autumn. It’s very simple, with clean lines and an A line silhouette, punctuated with a black belt. It’s quite short making it really suitable for everyday wear so you’ll get great use out of.

The collection also includes some really strong separates which can be mixed and matched in chic combinations. I immediately fell in love with the pussy blow blouse (€98). While not for the fuller busted, this is definitely a stand out piece and teamed with wide legged trousers (€110) it creates a stunning look.

Contemporary cocktail wear is of course what Coast knows best. From floor sweeping maxis to an opulent gold silk jacquard party dress (€175) with exquisite black sheer neckline, the styles are subtly sexy and don’t disappoint.

Of course the little black dress’s classic status is there in a slinky jersey or soft shift style with asymmetrical ruffle detail. A navy jersey trimmed with antique diamante provides a modern alternative to black. All in all this collection definitely gets a sartorial thumbs up from me!
