“Get active, watch your weight and cut back on alcohol to reduce your risk of cancer” This is the message from the Marie Keating Foundation at the launch of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is supported by Marks & Spencer.
Morah Ryan and her daughters, Charlotte and Bonnie helped launch the campaign at the M&S Store on Grafton Street with their message of the importance of a healthy lifestyle. More than 3,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland each year and it is the most common cancer among women. Screening, early detection and improvements in treatments mean more women are now surviving the disease. Some risk factors, such as being a woman, or having a family history of the disease are outside women’s control, but others factors can be significantly reduced through simple lifestyle changes that every woman can make.
Marks & Spencer’s stores in Ireland will donate 10% of the sale of a range of food and other products, including a healthy prawn sandwich, underwear and a chic scarve to help get the message out to women on the importance of taking good care of themselves by simply observing a few key rules – not rocket science but simple lifestyle changes. To-date, Marks & Spencer has supported the Marie Keating Foundation by raising over €750,000.
