BE BRONZED & BEAUTIFUL THIS NEW YEAR

December 28th, 2009

L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze

By Debbie Spillane

The notion of being ‘pale and interesting’ has always been a comfort to me – but even I must admit that bluish-grey skin sometimes needs a boost to successfully carry-off the season’s trends. But hectic festive socialising doesn’t always lend itself to the careful application of self-tanning products in advance of that special night out – not to mention the not-so-appealing smell that often comes hand-in-hand with that golden glow!

I’ve bravely bared arms and legs this winter with the help of L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze One Day gel. Super easy to apply, its effective mix of caramel and tinting agents give a sheer and sexy bronzed effect. Its moisturising formula enhances the skin’s own natural colour, and smooths the surface for a healthy, natural look. And the best bit…..as it doesn’t contain self-tanning agents, it actually smells good and can be washed off easily whenever you want!

LUSCIOUS LIPS – WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MAYBELLINE!

December 23rd, 2009

Maybelline

By Debbie Spillane

I’ve been told by friends that I’m an old fashioned gal when it comes to my lips……. the nude look and high gloss trends completely passed me by, yet I always feel absolutely naked without my lippy. But all lipstick-lovin’ ladies know that it’s essential to find a colour that lasts – and one that keeps your lips in tip-top condition during these icy winter days.

So I was thrilled to recently discover Maybelline’s Colour Sensational Lipcolour. Bursting with pure pigments, this lipstick adds a flash of intense and long-lasting colour that’s bound to brighten any dull December day! As it contains nourishing honey nectar, it glides on smoothly while conditioning and caring for your lips. And with 48 colours to choose from, you’re bound to find one to love. Sure it’s Christmas, treat yourself!

Available Nationwide, RRP €10.49

A TIGHT APPROACH

December 22nd, 2009

TIGHTS

It appears this month we’re going gaga for tights as the accessory du jour enjoys their moment in the fashion spotlight once again.

News that sales of tights have soared at M&S is not surprising given the temperature you might say. Get this though, the records were broken last week as tights sold at a staggering 4 PACKS A SECOND. It’s not only fashion styles that are proving popular – as temperatures plummeted, women stocked up on good old opaques which were sold at a staggering 44 PAIRS A MINUTE!

To put into perspective how many tights that actually is, we’re told that if you laid all these tights out end to end, they would stretch all the way from London to Paris! Now there’s an idea for anyone with an upcoming Eurostar journey…

All tights pictured above are available in M&S from just €8.

STYLE SECRETS WITH…PHOTOGRAPHER TERRY O’NEILL

December 21st, 2009

Terry O'Neill collage

World renowned British photographer, Terry O’Neill has photographed everyone from film stars, musicians and sports personalities such as Judy Garland, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Muhammad Ali and members of the British Royal Family. He recently opened his first exhibition in Ireland “Intimate” devoted to his incredible archive of artwork in Kildare Village. Not only does he work with some of the worlds most stylist people, he’s also quite a stylish gent himself so HelpMyStyle.ie took a few minutes to catch up with him to discuss his personal take on style…

What five words best describe your style?
Only four words needed – casual, chic, comfortable and classic. I think that being stylish comes from being comfortable within your own skin. There is a big difference between being stylish and being fashionable.

Best style tip?
Always have your trousers pressed!

HOT HANDBAGS

December 18th, 2009

I popped my head into Ted Baker recently and was really impressed with their fab little collection of bags. They definitely merit a mention especially if you’re on the look out for an accessory to go with a party outfit this season. From party clutches to quilted totes and my favourite the orange patent leather, you’re sure to find something to make your outfit pop!

TESCO DOES IT AGAIN

December 16th, 2009

Tesco

While on the hunt for a last minute (and nearly forgotten!) Kris Kindle token gift I found myself in my local Tesco. Naturally I made a beeline for the clothing section and once again I was pretty impressed by what I came across.

Over the past couple of months Tesco have really been making an impact with low cost, on trend designs that give rivals Penneys and to some extent H&M a run for their money. Read the rest of this entry »

RED LIPSTICK, DARE TO WEAR?

December 15th, 2009

Lips

By Rachel Kavanagh

Lipstick, the most profane and sought after make up product in the world. Without even a simple slick in any shade, a finished make up look simply lacks lustre and polish.

One shade in particular adds this instant elegance and femininity – red lipstick. I for one am delighted to see its constant return to the catwalk and to be now considered social accepted without feeling like a certain 90’s call girl from a famous movie.

SYBIL MULCAHY STYLE SECRETS

December 14th, 2009

TV3’s Sybil Mulcahy presenter of The Morning Show with Sybil & Martin and former reporter on XPOSÉ certainly knows a thing or two about looking her best. Juggling a career in front of the camera as well as her family life (she has two children Hugh & Genevieve), she’s mastered the art of looking great without having to invest too much time and effort in the process. So we caught up the glam Dubliner to talk style and see how she manages it…

Sybil

What five words best describe your style?
Hit and Miss but trying!

Best style tip?
Always buy your jeans a size too small as they will stretch to fit you perfectly after a wear or two.

Favourite item in your wardrobe right now?
My new Paul Costello white winter coat. It’s beautifully cut with a lovely frill at the top and I love it!

What’s in your handbag right now?
My wallet, filofax, three lipsticks, an eye shadow, hairbrush, my keys and one of the children’s socks.

Best high street store?
I don’t have a favourite really. I like Topshop for jeans, River Island and Oasis for sparkly t-shirts and French Connection for dresses.

Favourite place to shop?
Boston. Newbury Street has every shop you want. The taxes are less than in New York and its not as frantic. The outlets are only about 45 minutes out of the city and the people are friendly. I have long been an advocate of shopping in Boston.

Favourite online fashion sites?
I like InStyle magazine and shop style on the web, but I don’t really buy online I prefer to try things on and feel them first!

ITALIAN VERSATILITY, FUNCTIONALITY & FLAIR!

December 10th, 2009

SARTORIA VICO

With the current trend for chunky knits I’ve been on the hunt for some really funky pieces and stumbled upon new Italian label Sartoria Vico. Made in Italy, Sartoria Vico specialise in clothing & accessories bringing together the worlds of fashion and product design. The end result is clothing that’s super versatile and functional.

Like other emerging Italian labels, Sartoria Vico tends to shy away from the traditional concept of seasonal collections in favour of changing materials or adding new designs. The color palette consists of basics like black, gray and navy blue, combined with more vibrant colors such as green and dusty mustard.

The industrial design focus lends a versatility and functionality to the clothing which I love, with each piece sold with a set of detailed instructions on the various ways it can be worn, genius!

For more or to buy online visit Sartoria Vico.

GET TANNED LIKE A ROCKSTAR

December 9th, 2009

Rockstar

While I’ve never used fake tan myself, I’m reliably informed by trusty fashion-conscious friends who’ve trialed this next product, that it rocks, quite literally.

Actress (and HelpMyStyle.ie Beauty contributor) Rachel Kavanagh is on the verge of revolutionising the tanning market with her very own retail line of Rockstar Tan that recently hit stores nationwide. It claims to achieve that ‘Salon Look’ at home and by all accounts it appears to meet the grade.
